However appealing the subject matter is, “Mother of God” falls into that category of “nice tries,” like most newspaper bestsellers. The novel reads like a movie, that is, you feel a change of scene and handling of subplots much like you would on film. The author manages to resolve all open plots towards the end, but fails to write a compelling ending. The book is impecably and consistently written. It is, in fact, believable.
