Andiamo a Roma

October 24th, 2004

It’s time to go! In a few hours, we’ll be driving to the airport in Munich to take an early bird to Rome. We should be arriving there at 8:30 in the morning.

My mom’s so excited she’s almost standing at the door. This whole trip was her idea, actually. Ever since she came to visit us, she’s been longing to see the city where the pope lives. One night, my wife and I just booked the trip and off we go.

I’ll try to post a few pictures while we’re there (if getting online proves painless). In any case, expect the Photo Albums to be updated with what we grab from this lightning flash trip of four days.

Ci parliamo!

The Voter Registration Fraud Clearinghouse - dKosopedia collects all reported cases of fraudulent proceedings.

From the site:

And so it begins. Some say this will be the dirtiest election ever. The more people who vote, the tougher it is to suppress votes or tamper. So VOTE. But this time, we’re asking you to do more. Democracy is not a spectator sport.

As the US election grows near, it seems very clear where voters have their minds and what will ultimately decide the election.

Me, I believe the seat holder will win.

NaNoWriMo

October 22nd, 2004

Official NaNoWriMo 2004 ParticipantI’ve signed up for the National Novel Writing Month.

From the website:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.

Can anyone participate in NaNoWriMo? No. People who take their writing (and themselves) very seriously should probably go elsewhere. Everyone else, though, is warmly welcomed.

Why: NaNoWriMo is all about the magical power of deadlines. Give someone a goal and a goal-minded community and miracles are bound to happen. Pies will be eaten at amazing rates. Alfalfa will be harvested like never before. And novels will be written in a month, [so you can] mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

When: Sign-ups began October 1, 2004. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

News services all over the world are reporting Reuters.com” href=”http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=6559160″>García Márquez’s last laugh on editorial pirates. His recent “Memoria de mis putas tristes” (Memories of My Melancholy Whores) was released earlier in Colombia to counteract pirate sales that hit the streets of Bogotá earlier this week.

Kudoz to his editor and to García for yet more entertainment that will hopefully be available around here very soon, as well as in other languages.
